In Zoology, and Anatomy, the Spine is a part of the body shared by all creatures in the Chordata division of taxonomy. In terms of partonomy, the spine consists of 33 vertebrae. In Yoga, the spine is called the Shushumna and is seen in relation to Ida and Pingala. Symbolically, the spine (and the trachea) are seen as the Tree of Life and this central column is compared with the World Tree.
