Regular Polygons

Regular polygons are effectively the two dimensional equivalent of the three dimensional regular solids. Regular polygons included the triangle, square, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon and decagon. Their mathematical properties and metaphysical associations were studied in both the East and the West. During the Renaissance, instruments such as reduction compass, proportional compass and the sector were used to mechanize the construction of both the regular polygons and regular solids.
