As noted above, this is the time of increasing light in the northern hemisphere. In contrast, autumn, early winter and late winter belong to the fathers. These three seasons comprise daksinayana, the time when the sun is on the southern course. This of course is the time of failing light in the northern hemisphere. In particular, the dark side of the month of bhadrapada (September October) has been singled out as the best time for the worship of fathers. http://www.sanskrit.org/www/Rites%20of%20Passage/ancestors5.html Spring, Summer, Rainy Season - Autumn, Early Winter Late Winter 1 2 3 4 5 6 Vasanta, Greesham, Varsha - Sharad, Hemanta, Shishira Chaitra & Vaishakha, Jyeshta & Ashadha, Shravana & Bhadrapada, Ashvayuja & Kartika, Margashira & Pushya, Magha & Phalguna Ilavenir, Mudhivenil, Kar - Kudhir, Munpani, Pinpani Vasantham, Kreshmam, Varsha - Sarath, Hemantha, Sasira Ilavenir / Vasantham, Mudhivenil / Kreshmam, Kar / Varsha, Kudhir / Sarath, Munpani / Hemantha, Pinpani / Sasira Kharosti placed his palms together before the assembly and said, "I have thus set in their places the sun and moon, the annual seasons, and the major and minor heavenly bodies.
