In terms of the world religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity Islam), Sects represent sectarian tendencies and factions which emphasize some elements in a manner that is basically different from the original source. Some see these as branches or versions of the original. Some quickly see sects as heresies which are inimical to the original school. In the East, the religious thought of India and China had a cyclical view of the world that was simultaneously evolutionary epitomized by images such as yin/yang. One of the great steps taken by Zoroastrianism was to transform this into a dualistic view whereby there were fundamental oppositions between light-dark; good evil.
