Christian Symbols

Christianity favoured a symbolic interpretation of reality. Such symbols ranged from objects such as the Cross, symbols such as the fish, to customs such as the Holy Kiss. Indeed all relics connected with the Cross gained special significance, including the nail, the column where he is said to have been scourged, and the relics of the true cross which were said to go back to the Tree of knowledge in the garden of paradise, to have been buried, refound by Constantine, pieces of which remain to this day in Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, one of the 7 Churches of Rome.
