Semele

Semele was a princess and a moon goddess, with whom Zeus fathered Dionysius. A jealous Hera then persuaded her to look at Zeus frontally. She died. Eclipse Dionysius rescues her from underworld. She becomes Thyone. Some claim that Semele is Persephone (Kore). Cited from website: Lenaia cf. the story fo Sati Semele, which is the Phrygian name for Khthonia, the Underworld Goddess Semele was worshipped at Athens at the Lenaia, when a yearling bull, emblematic of Dionysus, was sacrificed to her.
