Physically Challenged

While the gods are largely idealized, there is a noteworthy presence of disabilities among them. The most frequent of these are in terms of loss of a body part: Head: (sometimes loss of more than one head) Decapitated Eye (especially right eye) Arm (especially right arm) Penis Testicles Castrated Leg (especially left leg) Lame In some cases the gods are systematically cut into parts or pieces, especially mutliples of 7 (days) or 13 (months). It is highly likely that these losses are mainly to be understood metaphorically: e.g. Orion loses his head when all but his head sinks below the horizon. Similarly death may be a metaphor for complete disappearance into the southern hemisphere.
