In the Middle Ages Chirstian Pillgrimage Places were focussed on 4 sites: Rome Apostles Peter, Paul, Saints Lawrence Jerusalem Christ Santiago da Compostela Apostle James Canterbury Saint Thomas a Becket Among these the paths or Pilgrimage Routes to Santiago da Compostela played a special role in the evolution of Romanesque and Gothic Cathedrals and Churches. In the 16th and 17th centuries there were were also (Sacri Monti (Sacred Mountains) mainly of interest to Italians, although the category is of international interest.
