Double Reed and Dionysios

The aulos was a double-reed instrument of great volume and stridency used in the rites of Dionysius and producing almost a pure square-wave (think of fuzz guitar at its most pungent). Permitted by Plato would be only the Apollonian instruments, the cool sounds, plucked stringed instruments used to accompany storytelling, safely functional and rational.
