Symbolism: Animals

Symbolism: Animals The use of animals in symbolism appears to be universal. Hence a primitive person is a beast and a developed person is human and strives to become like a god. The extent to which this is considered possible varies. Various cultures developed these general ideas into systematic approaches. Two major lines evolved: 1) Initaition via mystery religions whereby the individual embarked on a series of stages of intitiation which ensured their moral and spiritual evolution towards human perfection. 2) Religion: e..g. the animals linked with the Chakras in Hinduism; the 6 Creatures in Buddhism. cf. Man-Boar Man-Bull Man-Tiger
