Reference Room

Traditional Libraries have a Reference Room which contains: Library Name SUMS Level of Knowledge Author Catalogues Names, Terms Subject Catalogues Terminology Books Dictionaries Definitions Biographical Dictionaries Encylopaedias Explanations Title Catalogies Titles Bibliographies Citation Indexes Partial Contents Reviews In major libraries such Reference Rooms range form 100,000 to 500,000 books. These were the tools developed to help readers in collections of 5 million -15 million books. In the electronic world the size of collections is growing from 20 million to 500 million items. Advanced Readers and Researchers s will need at least 500,000 books by way of orientation. Here a single entry field is clearly not enough. SUMS is exploring choices and levels of coicces that will lead to Virtual Reference Rooms.
