St. Ignatius Day

St. Ignatius Day A belief that is still alive throughout the entire Bulgarian land holds that the first person entering the house on the day of St. Ignatius will determine what the next year is going to be. The first person to enter the house is called “polaznik” (or “poleznik”, “polyaznik” in different regions). He is made sit on a crate full of straw and kindling-wood and to “brood eggs”. Sitting on eggs is most probably a remnant of the imitative magic by which men helped the hatching of the new world out of the “egg mundane”. http://www.abvg.net/Sacred/Ignajden.html
