4 x 4 Pins

4 x 4 Pins
We may wonder about the very artistic looking sign marking the first line to be read in the frame (Line no. 21). As it is placed as the "th" in the standardized initiation of the stanza the sign should according to Michael Barnes be a cipher rune representing 3+3, but the sign appears as 4+4 pins. The reason is probably that the sign is formed by 3+3 "f"-runes with the pins of the f-runes combined just as bind-runes - being the first letter of both Futhark alphabets.
